Saga of Valor & Supreme Sacrifice

On 23 October 1962 at Tongpen La near Bum La in Tawang, Subedar Joginder Singh commanded a platoon of 20 Sikh soldiers. Attacked by hundreds of Chinese soldiers in three massive waves, he held the ridge despite being wounded in the thigh. When ammunition ran out, he fixed bayonets and led his surviving men into a ferocious counter-charge shouting 'Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal', inflicting heavy casualties before being overwhelmed.
