Saga of Valor & Supreme Sacrifice

On 4 July 1999 during Operation Vijay in Kargil, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar volunteered to be the leading scout of the attacking column on Point 4875 Flat Top. Coming under intense machine gun fire, he charged the enemy sangar single-handedly, engaged in ferocious hand-to-hand combat, killing three enemy soldiers despite being shot in the chest and forearm, and turned enemy weapons on the fleeing infiltrators.
